The KyGenWeb Project
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists organized the
Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to
provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where
collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would
be indexed and cross linked, so that even if an individual were found
in more than one county, they could be located in the index. This
project became known as KYGENWEB.
The USGenWeb Project
In June, as the Kentucky Project was coming to completion, it was
decided to expand the project to include all states. Volunteers were
found who were willing to coordinate the collection of county pages
for each state page. If the state in which you are interested does
not have a page and you wish to be responsible for it, or if you
would like to contribute your data or create a county page within a
given state, please contact the person responsible for maintaining
your state page. If you would like to create a county page within a
given state, please contact the person responsible for maintaining
your state page (see USGenWeb
for names and addresses).
The WorldGenWeb Project
Also in June, just 2 weeks or so after the beginning of the USGenWeb project, the WorldGenWeb project was begun, and there are
already several other countries involved in the project. Volunteers
are still needed for many of the countries. If you are interested in
hosting a country, please visit the WorldGenWeb
Project for details.
The USGenWeb Archives
The USGenWeb Archive was developed and implemented in July 1996,
as a place to present actual transcriptions of public domain records
on the Internet. This huge undertaking is the cooperative effort of
volunteers who either have electronically formatted files on census
records, marriage bonds, wills, and other public documents, or are
willing to transcribe this information to contribute. If you have
anything to contribute, please contact the person listed on the State Table of Contents page.
Please read the Guidelines for file contributions before submitting records.

The ILGenWeb Project
Illinois USGenWeb was originally started in June 1996. It has been
managed but Susan Tortorelli since December 18, 1996, and we have been
growing by leaps and bounds ever since. On November 12, 1997, Teresa Davis who had been an Illinois County Coordinator for a number
of months, took on the job of Assistant Illinois State
Coordinator. On September 18, 1998, Ginger Hayes, another long
time IL County Coordinator joined us as our Second Assistant State
Coordinator. It is our wish that all of our past visitors and all that follow after them, found the information they needed, or
at least enjoyed their visit.
If you would like to be a County Coordinator in Illinois or help
out with this great project in any way, please visit the ILGenWeb Help
Wanted Page to see what's open.
