History in Postcards and Pictures

(Click Here to learn how you can add to our collection of old postcards and pictures.)

This section provides links to a variety of postcards and pictures of Knox County landmarks and street scenes.  The links will take you to a variety of pages with thumbnail images, rather than full-sized images.  This is done so the pages will load more quickly.  If you see a particular thumbnail image that is of interest to you, click on it see the full-sized image.  Afterwards, press your browser's BACK button to return to the page you were in before clicking on the thumbnail image.  Most of the full-size images will fit onto single sheets of paper in either portrait or landscape orientation.

By the way, anyone interested in seeing Galesburg's history in postcards and pictures should take a look at the following recent publications that are rich with images (all black and white) and descriptions.

  • Galesburg Illinois in Vintage Postcards by Carley R. Robison, Arcadia Publishing, 2000, nearly 130 pages, ISBN 0-7385-0762-8.
  • The Best of Galesburg by Andrea Vitale, G. Bradley Publishing, Inc., 1999, 160+ pages, ISBN 0-943963-68-0.
Both of these books, as well as others, were very helpful resources in developing the descriptions accompanying the postcards and pictures in this section.

Contribute Your Postcard and Picture Images

If you have postcards or pictures that you think would be of interest to others,
send a scanned image of them to a site coordinator.

All images should generally be in .jpg format.  The resolution should be between 100 and 150 dpi.  The size should be approximately 800 pixels along its longest side.  For example, this sample postcard image has a resolution of 150 dpi and is sized at 819 x 546 pixels.
